Sustainability
Since the start of COUTONIC, I knew I wanted to create a brand where every woman felt included and celebrated for their individual style. I always felt the collection should represent free-spirited women, who live their lives inspiring others.
This past year I’ve been re-evaluating my company’s practices and values. In an effort to be more conscious about the products I sell, I am expanding the collection to include more sustainable and socially responsible products that will support local artisans, American made, women owned, and BIPOC owned businesses.
In the process of refining this vision, I’ve built out a plan to make my next steps clear. I wanted to share this plan to be transparent with you about what I am currently working on and where I am headed next.
I’m committed to putting sustainability and social responsibility at the heart of everything I do for COUTONIC. Here’s how…
2020:
- 40% of all apparel products to contain sustainable materials or up-cycled, vintage clothing
- 20% of products to support women owned businesses
- 5% of products to support BIPOC owned businesses
- 5% of products to support local artisans or made in the USA
- Expand the size range to include XS and XL
- Update packaging to resealable bags, eliminating the use of a second returnable poly mailer
- Eliminate the use of plastic protective bags and replace with a new acid-free biodegradable paper
2021:
- 50% of all apparel products to contain sustainable materials or up-cycled, vintage clothing
- 25% of products to support women owned businesses
- 10% of products to support BIPOC owned businesses
- 10% of products to support local artisans or made in the USA
2022:
- 60% of all apparel products to contain sustainable materials or up-cycled vintage clothing
- 30% of products to support women owned businesses
- 15% of products to support BIPOC owned businesses
- 15% of products to support local artisans or made in the USA
- 100% of new packaging to be sourced only from sustainable sources
2023:
- 70% of all apparel products to contain sustainable materials or up-cycled, vintage clothing
- 10% of apparel products to be designed in house with sustainable fibers and practices
As you can see, I’ve got my work cut out for me.
I hope you enjoy shopping with COUTONIC knowing that your purchase is making a difference. Thanks for being a part of the journey!
xx, Danielle McKellar
